Appropriate advancement of type 2 diabetes therapy—CME Information
Continue to Article CME Test FREE 1.5 CME Credits Release Date: October 1, 2007 Expiration Date: October 31, 2008 The purpose of this activity is to inform all clinicians who are interested in enhancing their diabetes management skills, including internists, primary care physicians, family practitioners, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other health care professionals. The focus is on optimizing management of type 2 diabetes. Target Audience This activity is designed for internists, primary care physicians, family practitioners, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other health care professionals. Learning Objectives Upon the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Describe the appropriate treatment approach for patients newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes

Discuss the role of patient education in diabetes management

Define the role of basal and prandial insulin in a comprehensive treatment strategy for type 2 diabetes

Discuss the appropriate use of newer medications in the management of type 2 diabetes
Method of Instruction Participants should read the learning objectives and review the activity in its entirety. After reviewing the material, complete the posttest consisting of a series of multiple-choice questions. The activity is complemented with references that contain the rationale for the correct answer to each question as well as a description identifying the section of the activity that contains the correct answer, allowing participants to review the material as needed, thus finalizing their educational participation. Upon completing this activity as designed and achieving a passing score of 70% or more on the posttest, participants will receive a letter of credit awarding 1.5 AMA/PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ four (4) weeks after receipt of the posttest, registration, and evaluation materials. Estimated time to complete this activity as designed is 1.5 hours.
